Wear OS Smartwatch Hardware
According to Slashgear, quite
naturally, smartwatches have fewer choices of hardware compared to their Smartphone
partners. Wear OS smartwatches, however, have started becoming unpopular for
having what was noted as "mediocre hardware" when compared to other
platforms.
This is said to be true
when it comes to the processors that most vendors are choosing to use as the
technologies date back to 2018 or even older. The upcoming Wear OS is going to
attempt to break away from that notion but its very first incarnation might already
be taking things further.
Qualcom Snapdragon Watch Chips
If the leaks are indeed
correct, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will then become one of the most powerful
smartwatches to date. The choice of processor is reportedly more important on
smartwatches due to limited batteries and space. Power efficiency and size also
play a major role for wearables but there still aren't that many chipsets to
choose from. The upcoming smartwatches,
however, could come without a power adapter.
A number of Wear OS
smartwatches make use of Qualcomm's previous Snapdragon Wear 3100 but are
failing to take advantage of the 12nm Snapdragon Wear 4100+'s more modern
features. Despite running the Wear OS, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will be
skipping that SoC as well and it is probably for the best.
5nm Exynos W920 Performance Boost
SamMobile notes
that Samsung's upcoming smartwatches will be making use of a new 5nm Exynos
W920 chipset. The much smaller size will also be giving the device more room
for other components while also improving the overall performance per watt.
The 5nm Exynos W920 is
supposedly going to bring a 1.25x faster CPU as well as an 8.8x better GPU!
However, it still remains to be seen how this particular chip will work against
the Snapdragon Wear 4100+.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Specs |
The Samsung Galaxy Watch
4 will be rolling out with 1.5GB of RAM along with 16GB of storage. This is
perhaps, as of the moment, the highest capacity in the whole smartwatch
market as of the moment. An FCC filing reveals that the
smartwatch could be set to launch on August 2021.
The upgrades could not
have come at a better time with more and more promises of additional apps and
other functionalities through the Wear OS and Google Play Store are expected.
The leaks reportedly paint quite a pretty picture of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy
Watch 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
There will also be a lot
of expectations waiting for the company's next line of smartwatches next month
and not just when it comes to hardware but also due to the new One UI-styled
Wear OS experience itself.
